Sixth, seventh and eighth grade girls and their teachers, parents and guardians from schools and districts in Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin and Madison Counties and East St. Louis are invited to attend the 19th annual GEMS conference.

Girls Program

All girls will be enrolled in “Welcome to the Real World”.  The University of Illinois Extension Program developed this program.  Each girl will get a glimpse of the real world of career choices, decision-making and money management.  Girls will see how the courses they take in high school influence their post secondary options and ultimately their career paths.

In addition each girl will be assigned to 2 workshops about potential careers. Women who have experienced successful careers in a variety of fields teach these hands-on workshops.  The importance of competence in mathematics, science and technology is an integral part of each workshop.  Assignments will be made on a “first come” basis.
